Before entering the car, set the two lace lengths so that the two pads are touching your sides with the inner surfaces parallel. The soft layer faces you and the angled surface rests on the seat. The handles point forward and down. The pad with the cordlocks goes on the left side.
While seated in the car, grab both handles with one hand. Keep the correct pad orientation, handles forward and down, cordlocks on the left. Lean forward and pass one of the handles, behind your back, to the other hand.

If you are able to get in the car without using you hands, try this other method. Place the pads at your sides, hold onto the handles and sit down into the seat.

Lean back slowly and place the pads between your ribs and the side bolster. Wiggle your torso and the pads to center them, so the pressure is evenly balanced, right to left. Raise and lower the pads to find a comfortable fit, usually a few inches below the armpit. The pads should be touching your ribs, not the kidneys.
We suggest starting out with the pads a bit too loose and then gradually tighten until they feel snug. You should feel a slight inward squeeze, about 1-2 lbs of force. The pressure should feel even top to bottom and not tight.

Adjustment

Being friction mounted, you can quickly adjust the pads while seated. This allows for very subtle fine-tuning of the location and pressure. I like it high and tight for the twisties, lower and looser for the straightaways.
To tighten, lean forward to take your weight off the left pad. Pull one lace out and slide the cordlock down to the pad. Grab both handles, lean back and re-center the pads. Repeat on the other lace if needed.
To loosen, lean back hard on the pads and press the cordlock for an instant to let a tiny length of lace slip through. Grab both handles and re-center the pads.
The two handles can be adjusted horizontally and vertically by bending them to the desired angle.

Leg Position

The Bolster Boost can also support your hips and legs. Although it was not designed for this area, it actually works great! It was discovered at an autocross event when one of the drivers was more distracted by his loose hips than torso so he found a way to make the pads work for his lower body. He reported that it stopped his hips from sliding and gave him a better feel of the handling.
In the leg position, the handles and laces are facing up so it is very easy to adjust to find the sweet spot. The pads create more contact area with the car which means even more feedback. Some of our clients have two pairs and use them on the legs and torso at the same time. They report the feeling is expanded, like going from mono to stereo!

Sling Mount Option

For added versatility, we include a simple add-on accessory to further secure the pads in place. It is a cord that wraps around the headrest and supports the pads from above so they won’t slip if the body-weight is removed.
I’ve used Bolster Boost for years now and it works fine without the sling but some drivers prefer it, so we made it a standard feature. However, it makes getting in the car a bit slower, so we recommend using them without the sling for the first week to see if you really need it.

Maintenance

The friction material collects dust which eventually reduces it’s grip. So we recommend wiping it off with a damp cloth or alcohol swab every few weeks.
The laces are provided extra long to suit drivers of all sizes, so the excess length should be trimmed. Once the the pad distance is set, we suggest leaving a 6” tail.
When not in use, keep the soft inner surfaces facing up and not under pressure.
